Speech-Language Pathologists assess, diagnose, treat, and help prevent speech, language, and communication disorders. Speech-language pathologists work with people who cannot make speech sounds or cannot make them clearly; have speech rhythm and fluency problems, such as stuttering; have voice quality problems, such as an inappropriate pitch or harsh voice; have difficulty understanding and producing language; have cognitive communication problems, such as attention, memory, and problem-solving disorders; or have oral motor challenges that cause eating and swallowing difficulties. Unique to PBRC is a free cleft palate clinic offered 6 times per year as a service to the people of West Texas. New to PBRC is the internationally respected Hanen Program "More than Words," which teaches parents how to interact on a daily basis to promote communication and social skills in their children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
