Care-A-Thon Keeps Contributions Local

PBRC’s largest annual fundraiser comes in the form of a televised Care-a-Thon.  Locally-owned CBS7 dedicates station time and resources for a nine-hour extravaganza of community involvement, great entertainment, and celebration of the human spirit.

Each year a patient is chosen to represent PBRC in the community.  A student at Bonham Jr. High, Bethany Lewallen shares the dreams and hopes of a typical 14-year-old.  Unlike most, she faces the daily challenges of MELAS, a rare genetic condition that affects many of the body’s systems, particularly the brain and nervous system.  MELAS is a progressive disease with no known cure.  At PBRC, intensive physical, occupational and speech therapies are employed to minimize Bethany’s symptoms.  Bethany’s bright smile, loving spirit and positive attitude give us confidence that with perseverance and patience she can continue to experience a full and happy life. Bethany’s story is just one of many.  On April 17 and 18, CBS 7 and PBRC presented Care-A-Thon 2010.  Funds donated during the event help provide much-needed therapy to patients in need.  The Care-A-Thon aired from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.  The final tote board showed $376,000 raised for these critical services.  PBRC invites everyone to get involved.  When you give, you can be confident that your contribution is put to work in our community.

Please show your support.  Make your pledge today or throughout the year by calling 432-332-8244.  Your gift can make a big difference in the lives of ordinary people living with extraordinary challenges.
